HAZMAT Team Clears Suspicious Powder Incident

Bayonne, New Jersey — December 6 — In response to a suspected hazardous materials incident at Avenue C and 57th Street on December 6, the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management organized a response. Members of the Bayonne Fire Department's HAZMAT unit arrived at the scene to look into a suspicious powder. Firefighters collaborated with the Hudson Regional Health Commission to assess the information, according to Fire Chief Keith Weaver. The scenario was deemed safe after testing and evaluation revealed that the material did not present a risk. Operations were assisted by OEM staff, McCabe Ambulance, and the Bayonne Police Department. The incident was resolved without any more problems, and no injuries were reported.
