Late Saturday night, volunteer firefighters from the Cardiff and Bargaintown fire companies responded to a structure fire in the 4000 block of Ivins Avenue after dispatchers received a call at 10:16 p.m. reporting a fire. Crews arriving on scene encountered a single-story, detached garage fully involved, with flames threatening to spread to a nearby residence. Engines 1512 and 1516 along with Rescue 1517 responded from Cardiff, while additional assistance was provided by Bargaintown firefighters, a tanker from the Scullville Volunteer Fire Company, and an engine from the Northfield City Fire Department. Firefighters worked under difficult conditions including cold weather and a limited water supply but were able to bring the fire under control and prevent extension to the neighboring home. One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was treated on scene. The incident was investigated by the EHT Fire Investigations Bureau, with support provided by the EHT Rescue Squad and EHT Police Department. The incident commander was Cardiff Fire Chief Bill Danz III.
