Waterford Works, NJ — December 6 — A reported natural gas leak in the township's Waterford Works area prompted the Winslow Township Fire Department to react. In order to safeguard the adjacent businesses and inhabitants, arriving crews quickly evacuated the affected area after discovering a substantial gas leak.

Firefighters created a safety perimeter and monitored the air continuously. While leadership coordinated with responding utility personnel, crews used a 1.75-inch handline as a precaution to prevent hazards. After South Jersey Gas arrived on the scene and fixed the leak, things were able to get back to normal. During the event, no injuries were recorded. Fire officials observed that a controlled and effective reaction was facilitated by early evacuation, monitoring, and communication between emergency agencies and the gas utility.
