Matawan, NJ — December 21 — Over the past several days, Washington Engine Company has been busy responding to three residential structure fires and a car crash that brought down a telephone pole. Alongside supporting agencies, crews worked at each incident, concentrating on hazard reduction, fire suppression, and general scene safety.

In the region, home fire activity and weather-related car incidents frequently rise during the cold months. Residents are still being reminded by fire authorities to monitor their carbon monoxide and smoke alarms on a regular basis and to exercise caution while using space heaters. The department's purpose in Matawan continues to include public safety education and ongoing recruitment.
