Columbus, New Jersey — December 10 — As part of continuous departmental skill development, members of Franklin Fire Company #1 received training on vehicle extrication techniques. Vehicle stabilization, patient access, tool placement, and coordinated crew activities during simulated auto accidents were the main topics of discussion. In order to ensure scene safety and effective communication, firefighters practiced operating in cramped areas. Company officers oversaw the evolutions to make sure the right protocols and training goals were fulfilled.
Volunteer firefighters still need to be proficient in vehicle extrication, especially as they frequently respond to traffic accidents involving light trucks and passenger cars. Members can maintain their proficiency with rescue tools and strategies that promote safe and effective operations with regular hands-on training.
