The Attleboro Fire Department announced a significant staffing growth on December 12th, adding eight new firefighter-paramedic positions. This is the department's biggest increase in over ten years. In contrast to previous staffing adjustments, these roles are strategically expanded to enhance emergency response around the city and are not dependent on retirements.
Attleboro's emergency call volume has increased by 78% over the last ten years, while staffing levels have not altered. The widening disparity has impacted uniform coverage throughout districts and put pressure on staff.
Fire Chief Scott Lachance said the expansion will allow the department to better match resources with demand, reduce response times, and enhance firefighter safety. The new positions are intended to strengthen operations and ensure continued high-quality service for the community.
