Vernon, NJ — November 27 — Due to a reported structure fire, all four of Vernon Township's fire companies were sent to the Great Gorge condominium complex. When Chief 2 arrived, he saw fire near the chimney in the back corner of the structure and asked for a second alarm, which led to the arrival of mutual aid personnel. Command promptly verified that every person was safely outdoors, despite early reports suggesting a potential occupant within the affected unit. Crews advanced handlines and put out the fire as equipment arrived, stopping it from spreading further into the structure. The chimney on the impacted corner collapsed during operations, although no outside workers were hurt. The surrounding units were mostly impacted by smoke odor, and the fire damage was restricted to the afflicted area. Residents who had been displaced by the incident were helped by the American Red Cross.
