Kenilworth, N.J. — November 29 — While Garwood Fire Department personnel worked at a third-alarm structure fire, a ladder truck from the Kenilworth Fire Department and Rescue Squad was assigned to provide town coverage for the Borough of Garwood. While local units were dedicated to the prolonged event, the coverage assignment made sure that Garwood homeowners had emergency fire protection. In the district, ladder companies designated to cover details are still on hand to respond to alarms, building fires and other emergencies. Third-alarm fires necessitate a large number of personnel and resources, frequently involving several departments from throughout the area. During significant incidents, mutual aid coverage is essential to preserving preparedness and regional coordination. Until Garwood units could return to their barracks, the Kenilworth ladder company continued to operate.
