Greenfield, NH — November 15 — The Lyndeborough Fire Department sponsored a collaborative horse-rescue training for firefighters from the Greenfield Volunteer Fire Department. Experts from the MSPCA in Methuen, Massachusetts, who specialise in safe methods for managing big animals in an emergency, conducted the training. Crews rehearsed techniques for rescuing horses involved in overturned caravan incidents and those stuck within stables.
Although these calls are infrequent, Greenfield's rural location has a large number of horses, so responders and animal owners need to be ready. Firefighters learnt how to work calmly around horses, ensure their personal safety, and raise the animal using specialized equipment during the hands-on section of the practice at Touchstone Farm. The department expressed gratitude to its partners and hosts for sponsoring this important training.
