Franklin, NH — 22nd December — As part of continuous winter readiness, the City of Franklin Fire Department had their yearly ice rescue training this week. Crews received training on nearby bodies of water, covering equipment usage, cold-water rescue methods, and coordinated activities necessary in ice-related incidents. Residents who granted access to their land, which enabled crews to securely reach training spots, were commended by department officials.
Firefighters stressed that throughout the winter, ice conditions can be erratic. Streams, drainage regions, weeds, water bubblers, and temperature fluctuations can all result in open water and fragile ice. The authority advised locals to wear winter clothing with integrated buoyancy whenever possible and to always check the thickness of the ice before going outside. Frequent training guarantees that staff are always prepared to act swiftly and safely in the event of an ice emergency.
