Bedford, NH — November 8 — The Bedford Fire Department received two days of training at Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS' container-based facility. A modified Conex-box layout designed to resemble a two- to two-and-a-half-story house was rotated by four shifts. Under poor visibility conditions produced by a smoke generator, crews conducted coordinated fire assault, search and rescue, ventilation, mayday drills, and command operations. The realistic, unpredictable structure forced teams to hone their teamwork and decision-making skills even though there was no live fire. The flexibility of the modular architecture made it possible to develop readiness and adaptation in a variety of situations. The leaders of Bedford Fire thanked Chief Sitar and Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS for hosting and supporting the important evolution. The exercise improved confidence, teamwork, safety procedures, and inter-shift communication. Crews from Bedford are prepared.
