November 4, 2025 — Westfield firefighters recently completed a comprehensive two-day training program held at Fire Headquarters and the Westfield Armory, focusing on advancing operational readiness and reinforcing critical life-saving skills.
The training began with classroom instruction covering Rapid Intervention Crew (RIT) operations and Large-Area Search techniques, providing firefighters with updated strategies and best practices for complex emergency situations.
Following the classroom sessions, firefighters participated in a series of hands-on practical evolutions. These included RIT firefighter rescue scenarios, large-area search drills using the Chicago Style Search Kit, and Firefighter Down CPR with accompanying PPE removal walkthroughs.
These exercises strengthened members’ ability to operate effectively in high-risk environments and ensured that personnel remain prepared to respond to critical incidents throughout the community.
The Westfield Fire Department continues to emphasize ongoing training as a core component of firefighter safety, operational excellence, and public protection.
