South Hempstead, N.Y. — October 30 — The South Hempstead Volunteer Fire Department responded Thursday evening to a house fire in Hempstead, with Engine 741 arriving second due and on scene within four minutes of the tone-out. Upon arrival, the crew stretched and advanced the second handline into the basement, joining Ladder 2 to extinguish the fire.
Crews worked efficiently to contain the flames to the basement area, preventing further damage. The coordinated response between engine and ladder companies demonstrated the department’s continued commitment to readiness and teamwork.
