Waldwick, NJ - Volunteer firefighters from the Waldwick Fire Department responded Thursday afternoon to a significant electrical infrastructure fire involving a utility pole and a 100-foot span of overhead cables along Wyckoff Avenue.

Emergency units were alerted during the afternoon of Thursday, October 8, 2026, for reports of burning utility equipment on Wyckoff Avenue in the vicinity of Lee Court. First-arriving crews arrived to find active, heavy fire involving a utility pole and stretching across numerous heavy communication and power cables running more than 100 feet overhead.

Due to the extreme electrical and electrocution hazards presented by energized lines, operating companies established an operational safety perimeter, secured the roadway, and stood by in defensive positions.

Once a Public Service Electric and Gas (PSE&G) technician arrived on scene and confirmed the lines had been de-energized and grounded, firefighters moved in with suppression lines to extinguish the remaining fire along the pole and cabling.

Waldwick Volunteer Fire Department operating apparatus included Engine 1, Squad 3, and Truck 1.
