Island Park, N.Y. — October 20 — At 5:06 p.m., the Island Park Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at the intersection of Quebec Road and Island Parkway. Second Assistant Chief Denis arrived first and transmitted a Signal 10 for a working fire. With exposures close to the fire area and high winds pushing heat, Chief of Department Gorton transmitted a second alarm shortly after.

Crews deployed three handlines and used a deck gun for a quick initial knockdown. The fire was contained and extinguished before it could extend to nearby structures. Mutual-aid support came from Long Beach, Oceanside, Point Lookout–Lido, Baldwin, Atlantic Beach Rescue, and Freeport.
