Garden City, N.Y. — October 15 — Members of the Garden City Fire Department visited Hemlock School and Locust School to speak with students about fire prevention and home safety. Firefighters reviewed key safety steps, including knowing two ways out of every room, checking smoke alarms monthly, and calling 9-1-1 only after exiting during an emergency.

The visit also helped students become familiar with what firefighters look like in full protective gear, reinforcing that firefighters are there to help during an emergency. The program is part of the department’s ongoing Fire Prevention Month outreach to local schools and families.
