Two Troy firefighters were injured in a hit-and-run crash after a vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a Troy Fire Department medic unit on People's Avenue, causing the ambulance to lose control and crash into multiple parked vehicles.

The incident occurred during the evening hours near 9th Street and People's Avenue when a vehicle traveling from 10th Street failed to stop at the intersection and struck the medic unit. Following the collision, the two firefighters notified the Rensselaer County emergency dispatcher that their ambulance had been struck and that the driver and occupants of the other vehicle had fled the scene on foot. The Troy Fire Department Rescue Squad, battalion chief, and two additional medic units were immediately dispatched to the scene. Arriving firefighters began assisting the two injured firefighters inside the damaged ambulance while additional emergency personnel secured the crash scene. Both firefighters were removed from the medic unit and transferred to another ambulance, where they were transported to Samaritan Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Officers from the Troy Police Department and New York State Police responded to the scene and began searching the surrounding neighborhoods for the individuals who fled following the crash. People's Avenue was shut down as police conducted their investigation and crews worked to remove the damaged vehicles from the roadway. The following morning, Troy Police Detectives continued their investigation into the hit-and-run crash that left two city firefighters injured. Through their investigation, detectives were able to identify the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., Troy Police Detectives arrested 27-year-old Ari B. Ginsburg in connection with the crash. Ginsburg was charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury automobile accident, failing to stop at a stop sign, and filing a false police report. Ginsburg was scheduled to be arraigned in Troy City Court later that afternoon. Both Troy firefighters sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision. The crash caused significant damage to the medic unit and multiple other vehicles along People's Avenue.
