South Windsor, CT - The South Windsor Fire Department mobilized multiple apparatus and support units late Wednesday afternoon to assist the Broad Brook Fire Department at the scene of an active multi-family structure fire.
The mutual aid alarm sounded at 4:22 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, requesting outside resources to bolster fireground operations at a multi-family residential dwelling. Upon arrival, responding assets integrated directly into key tactical sectors across the scene.
Engine 6 joined suppression crews to advance attack lines and halt the spread of fire through the residence, while Engine 3 established a dedicated Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) equipped to initiate immediate search and rescue if operating interior firefighters became trapped or distressed.
Concurrently, FP9 set up a rehabilitation station to monitor vital signs and support frontline personnel working under strenuous conditions, and Car 15 reported directly to the incident command post to assist with communications, resource allocation, and overall strategy.
Department leaders reiterated that mutual aid remains an essential cornerstone of the fire service, allowing neighboring communities to pool skilled personnel, specialized safety teams, and logistical resources to bring complex structural fires to a safe and successful resolution.
