Newington, CT - Firefighters from the Newington Volunteer Fire Department, supported by regional mutual aid, successfully brought a working commercial structure fire under control on Alumni Road on Sunday, October 11, 2026.
Crews were dispatched to Alumni Road following reports of an active blaze inside a local storage facility. Arriving units confirmed a working structure fire and initiated an aggressive fire attack to knock down the main body of fire within the commercial bays.
To assist with operational demands and provide district-wide coverage, Task Force 51 was activated. Task Force personnel operated directly on the fireground alongside Newington crews while also staffing Newington Fire Headquarters to ensure uninterrupted emergency coverage for the remainder of the town.
Following fire suppression, operating companies carried out an extensive and labor-intensive overhaul operation to dig out smoldering contents, check for hidden pockets of heat, and ensure complete extinguishment. Once the hazard was mitigated, department operations concluded and the scene was turned over to the local Fire Marshal's Office (FMO) to conduct a cause-and-origin investigation.
