Boston Fire Department Promotes Inclusive Fire Safety at Walk4Hearing

Boston, Mass.—October 5— The Boston Fire Department, headquartered at 115 Southampton Street, joined the Hearing Loss Association of America – Boston Chapter Walk4Hearing at Artesani Park in Brighton. Engine 29 and members of the Fire Prevention Education Unit participated in the community event to promote fire and carbon monoxide safety for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Firefighters demonstrated bed shaker smoke alarms designed to alert sleepers through vibration and strobe lights, showing how adaptive technology saves lives. Participants received educational materials and safety giveaways, while firefighters discussed the importance of home escape planning, carbon monoxide detection, and accessible emergency alert systems.
