Basement Blaze Contained at Falmouth Home; Two Firefighters Sustain Minor Injuries
Falmouth, MA - At around 2:11 p.m. on October 24, 2025, the Falmouth Fire Rescue Department responded to a reported structure fire at 5 Old Forge Road. While en route, responding crews received reports of smoke in the basement of the residence, with the source initially unknown.
Upon arrival, Engine 24 found no visible fire from the exterior. However, an interior inspection revealed a light haze throughout the home. Occupants were promptly instructed to evacuate as firefighters continued their investigation.
Fire crews soon discovered that a small fire had extended into a basement partition, likely originating from fireplace activity the previous evening. Extensive overhaul operations were required to access and fully extinguish the hidden fire. The affected area was thoroughly wet down, and after a safety inspection by the Building Department, the home was turned back over to the owner.
Two firefighters were transported to Falmouth Hospital for evaluation of non-serious injuries.
The Falmouth Fire Rescue Department expressed appreciation to the Falmouth Police Department for assisting with traffic control, as well as to Joint Base Cape Cod Fire Department, Sandwich Fire Department, Cotuit Fire Department, COMM Fire Department, and Bourne Fire Department for their assistance at the scene and station coverage
