Coordinated Rescue Effort Saves Individual from Rough Seas Near Woods Hole
Falmouth, MA - At approximately 3:30 p.m. on October 13, 2025, the Falmouth Fire Department and Falmouth Police Department responded to a water rescue call near Juniper Point in Woods Hole. The incident began when the crew of a Steamship Authority ferry spotted a person in the water and attempted to assist by deploying life rings.
Due to poor visibility and rough seas caused by ongoing storm conditions, responders requested additional support from the U.S. Coast Guard and the Harbor Master’s Office. Marine units from Falmouth Fire Rescue, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Environmental Police were dispatched to conduct a coordinated search operation, and a Coast Guard helicopter was deployed to aid in the effort.
As the search continued, focus shifted to waters off Nobska Point. At approximately 4:25 p.m., the Coast Guard helicopter crew located the individual in the water and deployed a rescue swimmer to retrieve them. The victim was successfully hoisted aboard the helicopter and transported to Joint Base Cape Cod, where Emergency Medical Services were standing by. The individual was then transferred to Falmouth Hospital for evaluation and observation. Authorities reported that the victim’s condition was not considered life-threatening.
Falmouth Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding how the individual entered the water. The incident highlights the importance of inter-agency coordination and the skill of Coast Guard personnel. Officials extended gratitude to all public safety responders and the Steamship Authority ferry crew, whose quick actions contributed to the successful rescue.
