October 15, 2025 — The Sussex Fire Department’s Fire Prevention team, joined by members of the Beemerville Fire Company and Colesville Fire Company, visited Wantage School this morning as part of ongoing Fire Prevention Month activities.
During the program, firefighters taught students important fire safety lessons, including how to know and provide their home address in an emergency, the importance of establishing a family meeting spot, and understanding the protective gear firefighters wear while on duty.
After the classroom portion, students were divided into smaller groups and rotated through various apparatus demonstrations, where they explored the equipment and learned about the specific functions of each vehicle.
The event provided students with both practical knowledge and hands-on experience, reinforcing essential fire safety habits in a fun and engaging way. Officials reported that the day was a great success, with both students and firefighters enjoying the experience.
