East Islip, NY - Emergency responders executed a complex and delicate technical rescue Thursday afternoon after a man became severely trapped inside the mechanical rail system of a local car wash.

At approximately 4:50 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026, the East Islip Fire Department was dispatched to reports of an individual pinned in industrial machinery. Arriving first on the scene, 1st Assistant Chief Hand confirmed that an adult male had his leg wedged tightly inside the track and rail conveyor system of the car wash and immediately requested specialized heavy extrication tools.

Multiple East Islip department units responded and operated in close coordination with the Suffolk County Police Emergency Service Unit (ESU). Facing tight steel clearances and rigid industrial track components, rescue crews systematically deployed hydraulic spreaders, cutoff grinders, and an oxyacetylene cutting torch to carefully dismantle the surrounding metal trackwork without compromising patient safety.

Throughout the extended operation, advanced medical teams from Suffolk County Police MEDCAT and Exchange Ambulance of the Islips provided continuous patient monitoring, pain management, and stabilization inside the wash bay.

Once the final mechanical sections were breached and the patient was successfully freed, care was transferred to Exchange Ambulance personnel, who continued emergency treatment while transporting the victim to an area hospital for further evaluation and trauma care.
