Firefighters Halt Upper-Level Fire on Woodcut Drive; Center Moriches Aids Overhaul

Centre Moriches, NY - Volunteer firefighters from the Center Moriches Fire Department mobilized on mutual aid Monday morning to support the Mastic Fire Department at the scene of a working two-story residential fire along Woodcut Drive.

At approximately 7:15 a.m. on Monday, October 12, 2026, Center Moriches was dispatched to assist Mastic units battling an active house fire. First-arriving Mastic fire crews encountered an active blaze venting from the second floor of a two-story private dwelling.

The Mastic Fire Chief immediately activated the department's working fire pre-plan to summon additional manpower and apparatus from surrounding districts to contain the incident.

Center Moriches deployed an engine and crew to the fireground. Upon arrival, personnel integrated directly into interior operations, conducting extensive overhaul to open walls and ceilings, expose hidden embers, and ensure no fire had traveled into structural voids or the roof assembly.

Center Moriches firefighters operated on scene for just over an hour assisting incident command before being released to return to quarters.
