One-Alarm Fire in Banksville Displaces Residents; Woman Hospitalized for Smoke Inhalation

Pittsburgh, PA - At approximately 10:50 a.m on 11 October., the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire responded to a one-alarm fire in the 400 block of Mapleview Drive in the Banksville neighborhood. The fire reportedly began in the bedroom of an apartment unit, generating heavy smoke throughout the building.


Firefighters rescued an adult woman and a cat from the affected unit. The Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS transported the woman to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. Despite medics’ efforts to resuscitate the cat, the animal did not survive.

In total, sixteen adults, five children, and two dogs were displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross Greater Pennsylvania provided temporary housing assistance and other support to those impacted.


The Fire Investigation Unit is currently examining the incident to determine the cause of the fire.
