January 5, 2026 — Members gathered for their weekly training night to complete required annual self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) certification, a critical component of firefighter safety and operational readiness. The training ensured all members met national and departmental standards for operating in immediately dangerous to life and health (IDLH) environments.
The evening began with mandatory mask fit testing, followed by hands-on demonstrations of properly donning and operating the air pack. Firefighters were evaluated on air management, emergency procedures, and overall familiarity with their equipment. These skills are essential for maintaining confidence and safety during interior fire operations.
Interior-qualified firefighters advanced through a series of practical evolutions designed to simulate real-world conditions. Crews completed the confidence maze to reinforce orientation and composure in zero-visibility environments, practiced controlled breathing techniques, and performed RIT/Downed Firefighter drills focused on self-rescue and firefighter survival. The night concluded with the front porch drill, emphasizing coordinated entry, communication, and air management under stress.
Regular training like this ensures firefighters remain proficient, prepared, and ready to respond safely and effectively when called upon by the community.
