BRISTOL TWP., PA - Two women—a staff member and a resident—were killed and at least 19 people were hospitalized after an explosion and partial collapse at the Silver Lake Nursing Home in Bristol, Pennsylvania, on December 23, 2025. Then on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, the Bucks County Coroner’s Office announced that a third person, another resident at the facility, died from injuries sustained in the explosion.

The explosion was reported around 2:15 p.m., causing major structural damage and trapping residents when part of the first floor collapsed into the basement. Firefighters and emergency crews from multiple jurisdictions rescued residents through doors, windows, stairwells, and an elevator shaft. Officials said a strong gas odor was detected before a second explosion and fire occurred shortly after crews evacuated the building.

PECO shut off gas and electric service as a precaution and said it is unknown whether natural gas or company equipment caused the incident. Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro praised first responders and local residents who assisted in the rescue efforts, calling it an example of “neighbors helping neighbors.”

State and local officials urged the public to avoid the area as the investigation continues.
