At 11:59pm on December 31st. less than a minute left in 2025 the East Prospect Fire Company was placed out of service and closed it's doors. This marked an end to a small community fire station located along the west bank of the Susquehanna River in York County, PA that had served for 118 years beginning in 1907. The fire company provided service to East Prospect as well as sharing Lower Windsor Township with the Craley Fire Company, and other neighboring municipalities.
The reasoning for the closure is unfortunately the same reasons that have forced many other PA fire stations to close. A declining number of volunteers, funding, and rising costs. As for the current fleet, their Ford F-450 utility was sold to a neighboring station, a Pierce rear-mount tower will possibly be placed up for sale, and their Seagrave rescue-engine will be kept in the current East Prospect fire station and will serve as a backup to the Craley Fire Company that has agreed to take over the fire protection for East Prospect Boro and all of Lower Windsor Township.
The members of the East Prospect Fire Company celebrated their final hours with a party for both past and present members.
Special thanks to Chief Fauth and members for the information and hospitality.
