Berks, PA - Volunteer firefighters and cross-county emergency medical crews executed a complex, multi-patient rescue operation Wednesday night following a severe motor vehicle collision in District Township, Berks County.

At 8:58 p.m. on September 23, 2026, Eastern Berks Fire Department (Company 97) and Topton Volunteer Fire Company (Company 39), alongside Medic 571-1, were dispatched to the 900 block of Huffs Church Road for an accident with confirmed entrapment. Chief 97 arrived first on location to find a high-impact scene involving two heavily damaged vehicles, with two occupants trapped inside the wreckage and a total of three individuals suffering from injuries.

Crews from Company 97 and Company 39 coordinated to secure the unstable vehicle using stabilization struts and cribbing before putting hydraulic rescue tools into service. Firefighters cut and peeled away the driver-side door, creating a pathway to safely extricate the trapped patients.

Due to the number of injured motorists, incident command summoned additional mutual aid medical units from Medic 525 and Montgomery County Medic 369 to provide triage, patient stabilization, and hospital transport. Company 97 operated on scene with Rescue/Engine 97, Attack 97, and Brush 97, maintaining hazard mitigation and fluid control until commercial wreckers removed both disabled vehicles from the roadway.
