FDNY Battalion Chief Eugene T. Kelty, Jr. Honored

QUEENS, NY - On October 4th, a street was dedicated to the memory of FDNY Battalion Chief Eugene T. Kelty, Jr. Kelty, a retired FDNY battalion chief, died at 70 on March 16th of cancer he contracted while working the pile at the World Trade Center in the days and weeks after the 9-11 attacks. This member bravely served the department, protecting life and property in the City of New York in the rescue and recovery at Manhattan Box 5-5-8087 World Trade Center. Kelty and his brother, Jim, also a member of New York's Bravest, were playing golf on a day off when word came that the city was under attack and immediately made their way into Manhattan. His first assignment was with Engine Co. 257 in Brooklyn. He finished his career with Battalion 10 in the Yorkville area of Manhattan.
