Central Square, NY — March 1st — When a structure fire was reported in the Palermo Volunteer Fire Department district, firefighters from the Caughdenoy Volunteer Fire Department Inc. automatically responded as mutual assistance. A working fire was declared after Palermo fire chiefs and sheriff's deputies arrived first and reported significant smoke and flames coming from the home's attic and eaves.
Crews were tasked to suppression efforts when Rescue Pumper 622, the second-due engine, arrived. A second alarm was needed to bring more firemen and equipment to the area because of the time of day and the shortage of personnel. Later, Rescue 663 and Tanker 651 arrived to help with overhaul and water supply.
