West Paterson Engine 3 delivered with traditional push-in ceremony

Photo by Todd HollrittWoodland Park, Passaic County - The West Paterson Fire Department upheld a proud tradition by welcoming a new 2025 Pierce Enforcer pumper for Rifle Camp Fire Company 3. They celebrated with a procession through town and a gathering at their firehouse. They blessed the new piece of equipment and then held a time-honored tradition, what is known as the push-in ceremony, to officially induct the new vehicle into service. This custom, which dates back to the 1800s, was originally practiced when crews manually pushed horse-drawn apparatus back into the station upon returning from calls. Modern fire departments continue this tradition as a tribute to their heritage, teamwork, and shared commitment that define the fire service.
