Livingston, N.J. — Sept. 23 — The Livingston Fire Department joined the town’s Community Block Party on Tuesday, opening its doors—and its trucks—to the public for an afternoon of outreach and education. Firefighters set up an open house for residents to explore apparatus up close, receive safety literature, and meet members of their local fire service.

Children at the event were given plastic helmets and fire safety coloring books, tools designed to teach basic safety in a hands-on, age-friendly way. Alongside these giveaways, the department staged a live vehicle extrication demonstration—showing how crews work to free occupants from crashed vehicles. The display drew attention and gave citizens a clearer view of the skills and techniques required in emergency rescue.

Officials say events like this help strengthen ties between the fire service and the people they serve. By inviting families to interact with firefighters and firefighting tools outside of crises, the department aims to build public awareness of fire safety and foster community trust.
