Elizabeth, N.J. — Sept. 18 — Earlier this month, Elizabeth NJ Fire Officers IAFF Local 2040 was approached by Philadelphia Police Officer Alex Bires, who founded the 9/11 Memorial Flag Project to honor law enforcement, first responders, and those involved in the events of September 11, 2001. The initiative intends to donate the completed flag to the 9/11 Museum in New York City as a continuous homage. Brother Roldan organized a luncheon this past Thursday for the Elizabeth Fire Officers Association, where both current and retired firefighters could sign the memorial flag. The event was held with the notion that each signature contributes to the collective memories and indicates a continued commitment to never forgetting that day.

By participating in this program, IAFF Local 2040 members reiterated their admiration for those who gave their lives and service on 9/11. Many people regard the flag's trip to the museum as a living tribute to service, commemoration, and solidarity among emergency responders.
