Mountainside, N.J. — Sept. 22 — The Mountainside Fire Department was called to Hillside Avenue for a reported structure fire. Firefighters were advised that smoke could be seen from the "C" side of the structure on Monday at 8:13 a.m. Squad 3 arrived within minutes of dispatch and immediately stretched an attack line toward the Charlie side, beginning suppression efforts. As conditions developed, the incident commander requested a second alarm to bring more resources to the scene. With the added support, crews worked to bring the fire under control soon after.
Mutual aid played a key role in the operation. The Town of Westfield, City of Summit, and Springfield FMBA Local 57 assisted on scene, while Cranford, Plainfield, and Union fire departments provided coverage for Mountainside during the response.
