September 9, 2025 — Three members of the Silver Springs Fire Department successfully completed the New York State Surface Water Rescue course this past weekend at the Wyoming County Training Center.
Lieutenant Slocum, Lieutenant Torres, and Assistant Chief Torres participated in the intensive program, which focused on the techniques and safety protocols needed to perform rescues in fast-moving and potentially hazardous water conditions.
All three firefighters are also active members of the Wyoming County Emergency Response Team (ERT) water rescue division, enhancing their ability to support both local and regional emergency operations.
Department officials praised their dedication, noting that specialized training like this ensures the community is better protected during water-related emergencies.
