Readington, N.J.-Sept 18: At the Hunterdon County Emergency Services Training Center (HCESTC) in Annandale, New Jersey, four members of the Readington Volunteer Fire Company started the process of becoming certified as Firefighters 1. Before taking their written and practical tests, candidates must complete classroom instruction and hands-on training over the course of several months, attending classes two evenings a week and one full weekend day. Fire behavior, the use of self-contained breathing apparatus, ventilation, hose operations, forcible entry, and other subjects are all covered in the Firefighter 1 course, according to HCESTC. In addition, the department celebrated two members who recently graduated from the same program earlier this year, recognizing their dedication and effort in completing the rigorous training.
The announcement was also used by Readington VFC to extend an invitation to new recruits. To find out how they can get involved, interested members of the community were urged to contact the department directly or stop by the firehouse on Wednesday evenings.
