Oven Blaze Contained to Kitchen on Electric Railway; Six Fire Departments Mobilize

Cicero, NY - An alert dog walker helped prevent major structural damage Tuesday afternoon, spotting smoke from a home on Electric Railway and prompting a swift multi-agency response that knocked down a kitchen fire in under 10 minutes.

At approximately 12:52 p.m. on September 8, the Cicero Fire Department and preplanned mutual aid companies were dispatched to the 6400 block of Electric Railway after a passerby heard fire alarms, saw smoke pushing from the front door, and was alerted by the homeowner that the oven was ablaze.

First-arriving command units confirmed an active oven fire extending into nearby kitchen cabinets. South Bay Ladder 58 secured a hydrant across the street and advanced an attack line inside, while crews from North Syracuse Truck 1 assisted with suppression, overhaul, and hauling the burning appliance outside. Cicero Engine 10 tapped a secondary hydrant, East Syracuse Engine 2 managed ventilation, and Mattydale Squad 4 stood by as the Rapid Intervention Team.

The coordinated push contained the fire primarily to the appliance and adjacent millwork, bringing the incident under control within 10 minutes of arrival. NAVAC Ambulance evaluated the homeowner on scene, and no injuries were reported.

A multi-department response—including units from Cicero, Brewerton, DeWitt, East Syracuse, Mattydale, North Syracuse, South Bay, Cicero Police, and National Grid—cleared the scene by 2:01 p.m., turning the residence back over to the owners.
