Basement Wall Compromised After Vehicle Plows into Thompson Road Residence

Cicero, NY - A motor vehicle sheared off a utility pole at its base before careening directly into a residence Tuesday morning, compromising the home's foundation and shutting down traffic along the 8300 block of Thompson Road in northern Onondaga County.

At approximately 9:48 a.m. on September 8, the Cicero Fire Department, Cicero Police Department, and North Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps (NAVAC) were dispatched following multiple 911 reports of a high-impact crash with unknown injuries and possible entrapment inside the struck home.

Car 2 (Deputy Chief Nicholas) arrived on scene within two minutes, confirming that a vehicle had struck the dwelling after snapping a utility pole at ground level. The driver had exited the wreckage prior to the arrival of apparatus.

Command was reinforced by Car 3 (1st Assistant Chief Barrett). The crew of Engine 2, led by Lieutenant Kittle, immediately stretched a precautionary handline to safeguard against potential fire hazards while securing downed electrical lines and exposed utilities. Concurrently, Engine 1 under Lieutenant Hemingway assessed vehicle-related hazards and conducted an interior search of the dwelling, confirming that no residents were inside at the time of the collision. Responders also noted substantial structural damage extending into the front basement wall of the home.

NAVAC Ambulance personnel evaluated the driver on scene before transporting the individual to a regional hospital for further medical assessment.

Cicero firefighters remained on scene to coordinate the safe removal of the vehicle, stand by while National Grid utility crews stabilized and replaced the severed pole, and assist the Town of Cicero Code Enforcement with a structural assessment of the damaged house.
