Flames in Garage Snuffed Out: Putnam Valley and Regional Mutual Aid Box in Early Blaze

Putnam Valley, NY - Volunteer firefighters mounted a rapid early-morning suppression effort Monday, containing an active garage fire and preventing flames from extending into the attached living quarters of a local residence in western Putnam County.

At approximately 2:45 a.m. on September 15, the Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched following 911 calls from an alert resident who spotted heavy smoke pushing from the garage. First-arriving companies confirmed an active structural fire within the garage area and immediately deployed attack lines to cut off the fire’s path before it could breach the residential interior.

Crews achieved a rapid knockdown of the main body of fire. Once suppression was secured, responders initiated extensive overhaul operations, systematically pulling drywall and opening ceiling spaces throughout the residence to check for hidden hot spots and structural extension.

The overnight incident brought a large mutual aid turnout from across the region. Scene assistance and fireground support were provided by the Garrison Volunteer Fire Company, North Highlands Engine Co. No. 1, and the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department. The Mohegan Volunteer Fire Association deployed its Firefighter Assist and Search Team (FAST) to provide specialized rapid intervention standby, while medical coverage was handled by Mohegan EMS.

Scene origin and cause determinations are being conducted by the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services (PCBES) Fire Investigation Team. No injuries were reported.
