Silent Crash Alert Prompts Urgent Response; Driver and Pets Rescued in Greene County

Prattsville, NY - A late-night automated crash notification triggered an urgent multi-agency emergency response Friday night, resulting in the rescue and medical airlift of a motorist along with the safe recovery of her three dogs following a violent rollover wreck in Greene County.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on September 18, the Prattsville Hose Company was dispatched to a reported motor vehicle accident after 911 dispatchers received an automated collision alert from a vehicle or mobile device with no voice contact on the line. Upon arriving at the scene, emergency responders found that a vehicle had veered off the roadway, plummeted into a roadside ditch, lost control, and overturned between two and three times.

First responders mounted an immediate rescue operation, securing the damaged wreckage to access and extricate the trapped female driver. Firefighters and EMS personnel also safely recovered three dogs found riding inside the overturned vehicle.

Paramedics with Greene County EMS and emergency medical technicians from Ashland Ambulance provided critical on-scene patient stabilization. The driver, who was conscious and semi-alert, was transferred to LifeNet 7-1 flight paramedics and airlifted to an area trauma center for advanced emergency care. A subsequent update from the patient's family confirmed she was recovering well with no immediate life-threatening injuries.

Scene security, highway closure, and traffic investigation duties were handled jointly by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police.
