On Friday, 12 September 2025, the Bridgeport Fire Department proudly announced that Pumper Engineer John Nuzzi has been named the Bridgeport Elks Firefighter of the Year. Nuzzi was recognized for his heroic actions on the night of July 10, 2025, when he entered the water during a boating accident and saved a woman who had become trapped beneath a capsized boat.

In the same ceremony, the Bridgeport Elks also honored Detective Jeffrey Holtz as Officer of the Year, recognizing his dedication and service to the community.

Department officials commended both honorees for their courage and commitment, calling them examples of public service at its finest.
