Thompson, CT – September 10, 2025 – The Thompson Fire Engine Company joined the nation in solemn remembrance on Wednesday, marking the 24th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Fire officials reflected on how millions of Americans went to bed on September 10, 2001, unaware that their lives would change forever the next morning. In a heartfelt message, the department honored those who never made it home, including the hundreds of first responders who gave their lives while saving others.

The department encouraged the community to honor the anniversary by living each day to its fullest and cherishing time with loved ones. “One never knows what a new day has in store,” the department said. “Take the opportunity to tell those closest to you that you love them.”

Local residents gathered across the region for vigils and remembrance ceremonies, including moments of silence at fire stations and community centers. Thompson firefighters reaffirmed their commitment to service, vowing never to forget the sacrifices made 24 years ago.
