Early Morning Structure Fire: Hillcrest Firefighters Execute Aggressive Interior Attack on West Burda Place

Broome, NY - Firefighters mounted an aggressive pre-dawn interior attack Saturday, containing a heavy structure fire and bringing the blaze under control with the assistance of regional mutual aid companies.

At 4:19 a.m. on September 12, the Hillcrest Fire Company No. 1 (Rockland County Department 6) was dispatched to a reported structure fire on West Burda Place in the New City portion of their district.

First-arriving units encountered heavy fire conditions within the building. Under the overall direction of Chief Bowers managing Incident Command, Assistant Chief Ben-Jacob heading Operations, and Assistant Chief Boney coordinating the interior attack, suppression crews deployed rapidly aboard Engine 6-1501, Tanker 6, and Ladder 6-75. Firefighters advanced primary attack lines directly into the burning structure, aggressively fighting back the intense flames to limit structural spread and verify the dwelling was clear.

The operation was bolstered by seamless mutual aid support, with the New City Fire Engine Co. No. 1, Spring Valley Hook & Ladder Co. #1, and Nanuet Fire Department responding to assist with fireground operations, backup handlines, and specialized truck work. Ground support, traffic control, and medical standby were provided by the Clarkstown Police Department and Nanuet Emergency Medical Services, helping ensure a smooth, coordinated conclusion to the early morning emergency.
