Second-Alarm Kitchen Blaze: Fast Initial Attack by Endicott Firefighters Halts Tracy Street House Fire

ENDICOTT, NY — Firefighters mounted an immediate, multi-tasked suppression attack Wednesday afternoon, stopping a rapidly extending kitchen blaze in its tracks and preventing the complete destruction of a residential home on Tracy Street.

At approximately 1:56 p.m. (1356 hours) on September 9, 2026, Station 25 was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the village. Chief 25 responded alongside Platoon 3, led by Captain Huften, placing a five-person initial response on scene within minutes to find heavy fire actively spreading through the kitchen and threatening the entire structure.

Operating with a lean initial crew where every member was assigned a critical, simultaneous fireground role, Chief 25 established Incident Command while apparatus operators positioned Quint 25 and caught a positive water supply from a nearby hydrant.

Captain Huften and a fellow firefighter rapidly stretched an attack line through the front door, making aggressive interior entry to combat the flames while concurrently conducting a primary search for trapped occupants through heavy smoke conditions.

As the second alarm activated, off-duty Endicott personnel returned to duty, quickly integrating into operations to systematically search the second floor and execute vertical and horizontal ventilation.
