Shelton Fire Performs Extrication After Route 8 Rollover

September 7, 2026 — Shelton, Connecticut: On Monday nite, Shelton Fire Department personnel responded to a reported rollover incident involving entrapment on Route 8 south between Exits 9 and 11.

Around 7:09 p.m., the call was received. One resident needed to be extricated, according to Connecticut State Police, while rescuers were responding. When firefighters arrived, they discovered the car in the highway median on its driver's side. Before firefighters arrived, two young passengers had already exited the car.

In order to access the remaining occupant, fourteen Shelton firefighters labored to stabilize the car and remove part of the roof. After gaining access, the patient was taken away and given medical attention by Echo Hose Ambulance staff. After being extricated in about ten minutes, the patient was taken to a nearby trauma center for assessment. In the end, all three occupants were taken for assessment.

Deputy Chief Paul Wilson was in charge of Squad 1, Engine 2, Rescue 30, and Cars 3 and 6. After the event, the highway was reopened.

Four companies make up the all-volunteer Shelton Fire Department, which offers fire and rescue services all around the city.
