Ansonia Firefighters Contained Main Street Commercial Fire

Ansonia, CT — September 8 — On Tuesday morning, Ansonia firefighters responded to a commercial structure fire at 232 Main Street, where smoke was visible coming from a first-floor business.Engine 6 arrived and deployed a 2½-inch handline to fight the fire.

Local officials stated that the fire was confined to the first-floor restaurant area and the ceiling.

Firefighters also helped evacuate residents from apartments on the second and third floors as they worked to ventilate the building.No injuries were reported.

Fire departments from Derby, Seymour, Oxford, and Shelton provided mutual aid to Ansonia crews, while Orange firefighters supported the staff at Ansonia firehouses.

The response was upgraded to three alarms to bring in more personnel and equipment.

The building, which is a mixed-use structure, was constructed in 1860 and includes both commercial and residential spaces.

Fire officials noted that the building's age and construction influenced the decision to deploy additional resources.The fire was fully extinguished before noon, and the cause is still under investigation.
