Westport, CT - Firefighters from the Town of Westport Fire Department, alongside emergency medical teams and state troopers, responded to an early morning single-vehicle accident along Interstate 95 on Sunday that backed up highway traffic and sent one person to the hospital.
The incident occurred during the early hours of Sunday, October 18, 2026, on the northbound lanes of Interstate 95, just north of the Exit 18 on-ramp. First-arriving rescue units found a single passenger vehicle damaged across the roadway, immediately establishing safety barriers across travel lanes to protect the crash site and incoming motorists.
Firefighters and personnel from Westport EMS rapidly conducted a roadside medical evaluation of the vehicle's four occupants. While three individuals received treatment at the scene and required no further transport, paramedics transferred one occupant to a local hospital for additional medical care.
The coordinated response between the Westport Fire Department, Westport EMS, and the Connecticut State Police required extensive lane closures, producing significant travel backups along the northbound corridor while emergency crews cleared vehicle debris, managed minor fluid hazards, and reopened the highway to normal morning traffic.
