Ansonia, CT — August 23 — The Fire Department received a call on Sunday morning about a fire involving a wood chipper in the city’s Hilltop area.Engine 5 arrived at the scene and worked alongside the contractor to control the fire, focusing efforts on the machine’s motor section.


Firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading beyond the equipment and ensured the damaged chipper was safely secured.

The situation involved working around heavy machinery and a workspace that could have posed risks.The contractor provided support to the firefighters during the incident.


Ansonia functions as a volunteer fire department and consists of five fire companies, as noted in city and regional emergency planning records.

The Hilltop Hose Company, which serves the Hilltop section, is based on Pulaski Highway.Recent city reports also indicate that the department continues to depend on volunteer staff for emergency responses while making adjustments to its station operations.
